- TN Panels (Twisted Nematic) this is the cheapest and most common type of display panel. When the monitor doesn’t say what panel it is, chances are it’s a TN Panel. The downside of this type of panel is it has the least accurate color representation and has bad viewing angles. But its high Refresh Rate makes up for its faults making it ideal for video games.
- VA Panels (Vertical Alignment) VA Panels are the midrange of monitor panels it has better color representation than TN Panels but at a cost.
- IPS Panels (In-Plane Switching) the most accurate and has the better viewing angle of the 3 types of panels. It is also the most expensive. The only fault of IPS Panels is their lack of high Refresh Rates only being a problem if you are a competitive gamer.
Refresh Rates
You might be wondering what refresh rate is. It is simply how many frames your monitor displays in a second. The most common refresh rate is 60Hz or 60 frames per second.
Gamers tend to want more speed from their monitor usually opting for 120Hz or 144Hz Refresh Rates usually only found on TN Panels but it is barely distinguishable for the untrained eye.
